Huon was recently featured in the Coffs Coast Focus magazine. Check out his interview below:

Hi Huon, how long have you been going to Key for and why do you like it?
I’ve been going to Key for about three years now. I like it because everyone is really nice and helps me a lot. I get to do fun stuff like sing karaoke and hang out with my friends. I help at the Key Market stall on Thursdays in the City Centre. I serve people and get them the fresh produce on offer. I am also learning a lot in my work experience at Bellingen IGA.

What is your favourite Karaoke song?
My favourite song to do is “Complicated”by Avril Lavigne. I LOVE IT! I really enjoy performing in front of people.

What have you been enjoying most about working at the IGA?
I just enjoy everything that comes with working there. The smiling faces, the people, the different tasks I’m given. I love sorting out all the products, but my favourite is the cat food. I love serving customers and bumping into friends. It’s a great place to work.

What are some of the different tasks that you do while you’re there?
I stack shelves. I also work in customer service, helping people find items they can’t find. Some general tidying and recycling boxes. Every day is different. That’s what I love about it.

Does Key support you while you are at work?
Yes, my support worker is always with me, so I don’t feel alone which is awesome. They help me when I need it and offer me advice. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them.

What would you say to others with a disability who are thinking of starting work experience?
Working is great fun. You get to meet new people. You get great experience for later in life. You should do it.

Would you recommend Key to others?
Absolutely. The support workers are always there for me, and it feels like a big family. I don’t feel alone, and I’m learning new things all the time. I love going to Key.
