How long have you been involved with Key Community Group:
I have been working with Key since around 2018 and still going.
What made you decide to start employing staff from Key Community?
To be honest, it just felt like the right thing to do. We’re a local business and I’ve always been big on giving people a fair go. A lot of people just need the opportunity to get in and show what they can do.
We figured if someone’s keen to work and have a go, why not give them that opportunity. It’s worked out really well for us too. When people feel like they’re part of the team, they show up, work hard, and take pride in what they’re doing.
What has your overall experience been like working with Key?
It’s been really good. Key are easy to deal with, no dramas, and they actually listen to what we need. They’ve sent us people who are keen to work and get stuck in, which is what we’re after.
One thing I like is they don’t just drop someone off and disappear. They check in, help out if there’s any issues, and make sure things are running smooth. That’s been a big help.
The financial side has been great too. Things like wage subsidies and training support take a bit of pressure off, especially for a small business like ours. Makes it easier to bring people on and keep growing.
All up, it’s been a really positive experience. We’ve picked up some great workers and had solid support the whole way through.
What roles have people stepped into in your business?
They’ve helped out across pretty much all the usual landscaping and lawn jobs.
Things like:
Pretty standard stuff for our line of work.
How have the people you’ve hired been as part of your team?
They’ve been really good. Once they settle in, they get on with the job and become part of the team. Most of them are keen to learn, take pride in their work, and just get stuck in. Not everyone sticks it out, but that’s the same with anyone you hire.
How has the support from Key Community Group been throughout the process?
They’ve been great to deal with. Easy to get hold of, quick to help out, and they know what they’re doing.
They check in regularly and help out if anyone needs a bit of extra support. Takes a lot of pressure off us and makes things run a lot smoother.
Sometimes we just give them a call and they sort things out, which lets us get on with the job. That support has been a big plus.
What impact has employing through Key Community had on your business?
Honestly, it’s been a really positive thing for the business.
We’ve got extra hands, the work gets done, and the team’s been strong. It’s also been good seeing people build confidence and get better at the job over time.
It’s not just about the work either, it’s been good for the team environment. Everyone feels part of it and gets around each other.
What would you say to other businesses who are unsure about hiring from Key?
I’d just say give it a go.
If you’ve got someone who’s willing to work, it’s worth bringing them on. You’ll probably find it works really well.
And you’re not on your own with it. Key are there to help the whole way, so it’s not as hard as people think.
At the end of the day, it’s good for your business and it’s good for the community too.
