Golf has always been part of Josh’s life. It’s given him friends, connections, and now, with support from his Employment Consultant Tracey, it’s led him to a new job at REDD’s Golf Zone.
Josh works as a hands-on assistant across the business – serving customers, taking bookings in person and over the phone, making coffees in the café, setting up equipment, and learning more about it so he can help with customer questions too.
For REDD’s owner Priya, taking him on was an easy call.
“Employing Josh was a no-brainer for me given his manners, attitude and genuine enthusiasm to work here at REDD’s,” Priya said.
“I have been impressed by Josh’s performance and ability to play an integral role within our team.”
Priya’s built a workplace where Josh can keep learning and taking on more.
“We are fostering an environment at REDD’s where anyone can enjoy the space and all abilities are welcome, and I believe that starts with the staff setting an example about how we should treat others,” Priya said.
“I value the opportunity to be Josh’s employer and assist in his continued development.”
Finding the right work hasn’t always been straightforward for Josh, who has intellectual and physical barriers. Along the way, he’s worked on his confidence and independence. What mattered most was finding a job that actually suited his abilities and interests – with an employer who understood.
With support from Tracey and Key, Josh prepared for work, found opportunities that fit him, and worked through challenges along the way. For Josh, it hasn’t just been about finding a job – it’s been about finding the right job, with the right employer, somewhere his interests and strengths actually fit and he can keep growing.
Josh has gained his driver’s licence, bought his own car, made new connections, and taken on responsibilities that once might have felt out of reach.
Outside of work, golf is still a big part of Josh’s life. This October, he’ll represent NSW in golf at the Special Olympics National Games, something he’s incredibly proud of.
