Danika’s journey is one of resilience, courage, and steady determination.
Before coming to Key Community Group, Danika was unemployed and living with severe anxiety that affected many areas of her life. What was first thought to be a heart condition was later understood to be panic attacks linked to ongoing anxiety. Everyday tasks could feel overwhelming, but Danika still held clear goals for her future, to keep working on her mental health, build her independence, move out of home, and one day buy her own house.
When Danika spoke with her employment consultant Bec about wanting to work in childcare, it was a turning point. She had a genuine interest in the industry, and together they mapped out the steps needed to make it possible.
Her consultant supported her to explore the right training pathway and helped her enrol in a TAFE childcare course. Along the way, Danika was encouraged to take things at a pace that felt manageable, with regular check-ins to build confidence, stay motivated, and navigate the anxiety that came with new routines and expectations.
Danika remained committed throughout, continuing to prioritise her mental health, attending appointments with her psychologist, and showing up to both study and employment preparation even when it was challenging.
Today, Danika is employed five days a week in a childcare setting where she is highly valued. She currently works three hours a day, and her employer is already keen to increase her hours, reflecting the positive contribution she makes to the team. Danika has settled seamlessly into the workplace and is described as an extremely valued staff member.
The impact on her life has been significant. Danika has gained confidence, financial stability, social connection, and independence. She has formed meaningful relationships with both children and families and is building the future she once only hoped for.
Danika has shared how important it was to have someone believe in her goals and support her in practical, consistent ways as she worked toward them.
For everyone at Key Community Group, her story is a reminder that sustainable employment doesn’t come from lowering expectations, it comes from the right support, real opportunity, and a person’s own determination to keep moving forward.
For Danika, this chapter is about much more than a job. It’s about independence, confidence, and knowing she is capable of achieving her dreams.
