In 2025, Coffs Harbour local Naser Murad represented Australia as a member of the Deafaroos at the Deaflympics, an incredible milestone in his journey. A Yazidi refugee from Iraq, Naser arrived in Australia eight years earlier without spoken English or Auslan, but found belonging through football, where teammates learned to communicate with him through sign language.
Now playing with Coffs City United, Naser’s path to the international stage was supported by his community, and Key Community Group was proud to be part of his journey and to help him along the way. A powerful reminder of how inclusion and opportunity can change lives.
